The Original "Mimi"

My dear, sweet sister-in-law Pam Sanders is the original "Mimi." She chose that grandmother name when her first grandchild Austin was born 6 years ago. A year later, when my first grandchild Tucker was born, I decided to choose the same name. You see, the other grandmother names in use so far were Granny, Nanny, and Grandma so I wanted something different. I had enjoyed hearing Pam being referred to as "Mimi" and thought that would be a good name for me also. Pam is a wonderful grandmother. She has such a gentle, loving spirit about her. So far she has five grandchildren: Austin (6), Layla (4 1/2), Sophie (almost 3), Charlie Dawn (18 mos.), and Isaac (11 mos.)from her three children. Pictured decorating cookies with Mimi are Charlie, Sophie, and Austin. I can take many lessons about the art of being a grandmother from Pam. Not only is she a great "Mimi" but also a wonderful sister-in-law, friend, mother, and wife.

Tucker Speaks His Mind

My oldest grandchild Tucker, who is age 5, reported to me yesterday about a party he attended the night before saying, "There were some old people there...you know, Grandma and Grandpa" He was referring to his great-grandparents on my side. I asked him if I was old and he said, "Just a little." These comments gave me a good laugh!

"Granny" Janice

My sister Janice is now enjoying the role of "Granny" with 5 month old Payton and her brother 6 year old Clayton. She often gets one or both of the kids for the day and recently for the first overnighter. Janice is an accomplished seamstress. Her first project for Payton was to make the entire bedding set, bumper pads, etc. from pink cammo print fabric. You see, Janice and hubby Ken are avid bow hunters and so the fabric had to go along with that theme! I'm sure we will see many more sewing projects for Payton in the future from "Granny" Janice.

Becoming a Blogophile

Well, here it is...my blog. After many weeks of contemplating it and reading lots of blogs out there, I decided to put up my own. I wrestled with the type of blog I'd create: one about travels, one about life as a classroom teacher, one about the trials of being a mother-in-law, or one about day to day life. But in the end, I chose to focus on life as a grandmother because that role is very important to me! It was watching the movie Julie & Julia and having the time during Christmas break that pushed me over the threshold of creating this blog. Enjoy!
